Different Types Of Ads
I am always eager to know about different Ad Networks and their working style. If possible, I always try them out on my site http://downloadwallpapersfree.googlepages.com without worrying about getting payout from them. So in this experience, I have come across many types of ads which are provided by different Ad Networks. Let me introduce to them all.
PPC (Paid Per Click) Ads
This is most popular type of ad. In this type, a publisher earns revenue whenever a visitor clicks on an ad, shown on that publisher’s site. There lies a simple reason why PPC ads are very popular. An advertiser has to pay money only when a visitor clicks on his ad and so, that visitor is already interested in it. So, conversion rate is improved by showing PPC ads.
As evident, PPC ads look more beneficial to advertiser that publisher, because a publisher doesn’t get any money though he shows ads on his site. There may be many visitors who just look at ads and its advertisers, but don’t click on them at that particular time. Thus in such cases, advertisers have shown their ads for free! Anyway, it’s after all a part of publishing and advertising.
CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impressions) Ads
This type of ads is also very popular. It’s ideal for a site getting high traffic or high page-impressions. The most beneficial side of this type is that, every single visitor or page-view of a publisher’s site is converted into revenue for him (though very small amount). So, visitors click on such ads or not, it doesn’t matter for a publisher (while it does matter for advertisers).
It’s worth to note that, if you see a thing like “eCPM”, it’s a whole different thing. That eCPM word isn’t an indicator of CPM ads. It just converts the income (or cost) based on PPC ads to so called CPM ads, merely to compare effectiveness of PPC and CPM ads. Usually CPM rates lies in between 0.05$ to 2.00$ per thousand impressions.
Flat-Rate Ads
Getting this type of ads is a prideful (and somewhat difficult) thing to any publisher. These ads are very similar to the ads we see in newspapers or magazines, in view of their mechanism. In this case, an advertiser buys a specific space on a website or blog, for a specific time. The rate of ad is fixed by the publisher. If any advertiser finds that rate affordable, he buys that space, and starts showing ads. In such cases, ads are not of rotating type, but a single ad is shown at a single place.
For getting such an opportunity, the publisher’s site must be famous and the rates should also be justifying. Surprisingly, the biggest ad network Google Adsense doesn’t provide such service, though there are many other famous ad networks providing it.
PPA (Pay Per Action) Ads
To get revenue from PPA ads, a certain action on advertiser’s site is needed. Only click or page-view can’t help a publisher. To be more precise, the advertiser sets a specific task on his site to be done by a visitor to pay the money to the publisher.
As should be, PPA ads have higher revenue per action because of the less probability of completing the task related to PPA ads by visitors. Also, free offers have lower revenue than paid ones. I personally have seen some paid offers offering the publisher up to 40-50$ per action!
These ads are evidently more beneficial to advertisers. They have to pay money only when the visitor does some positive action on their site. Only some of the ad networks provide PPA ads, including Google Adsense. Although having more payments per action, I personally don’t like these ads much, due to having very low conversion rates for publishers.
LinkInText Ads
Some of the ad networks provide this option, which is of quite different form as related to previous ones. In this type, ad placement on the site is random rather than a fixed position. This is one of the best forms of ad that the advertisers can have.
The effectiveness of this type of ads largely depends on the matching between Anchor Text (Anchor Text is nothing but the linked keyword of the content) and the actual link’s content. If both of them match perfectly, then it is the best situation for the publishers as well as advertisers.
These ads can be of PPC type or Flat-rate type. Also, they can be having a small description-window or lack of that. Evidently, LinkInText having no description-window is more preferable for publishers. A drawback of these ads is that, some visitors may not like the ads in their content-meal. You also may see these ads on my blog. I am really sorry if that hurts you, but what can I do else? I have to try out them being an Ads-Tester.
Another drawback of this type can occur, when the related ad network hasn’t vast variety of advertisers. In such a case, matching between Anchor text and advertised link is poor, resulting in poor revenue for the publishers and effectiveness for the advertisers.
Kontera and Linkworth are some of the few ad networks providing such ads.
